Townsville Events

Townsville is home to diverse events and there truly is something for everyone here.

If you’re looking to soak in the rich arts and culture scene, you’ll want to put the North Australian Festival of Arts (NAFA) to the top of your list. This award-winning festival is held annually and showcases Northern Australia’s melting pot of creativity. With comedy, circus, theatre, music, and dance all on offer, over the course of 17 days Townsville is transformed into a celebration of artistic, and cultural events.

A fan of chamber music? Townsville has you covered with the Australian Festival of Chamber Music. For over 30 years, more than 30 musicians from across the world converge in Townsville to perform world-exclusive chamber music combinations.

Prefer contemporary art? You’ll want to make your way to The Stand during the Ephemera: Seaside Sculptures where you can admire the works from over 30 artists from across Australia, Canada and the United States.

If motorsport is more your thing, go full throttle at the Townsville 500. This annual Supercars events roars into Townsville with racing, stunt shows, aerial displays and more showing across a three-day weekend. Whether you’re a die-hard Supercars fan or looking to tick this iconic event off your must-see Townsville North Queensland list, you’ll be guaranteed a good time, soaking in the atmosphere, cheering on your favourites, and being wowed by the exceptional motorsport skills on display.

And you simply cannot leave Townsville without enjoying a rugby or soccer game at our 25,000 capacity Queensland Country Bank Stadium. Home to our very own North Queensland Cowboys and regularly hosting the biggest matches in North Queensland, the vibrant atmosphere spilling out from the stadium truly is unmatched.

Ingham Events

 Ingham isn’t called Little Italy without reason. With half the town identifying as Italian or of Italian descent, it is no surprise that Ingham is home to the Australian Italian Festival. This annual event is a must do for all pasta and pizza lovers out there, with authentic home-cooked Italian food on offer as well as workshops, displays and eating competitions that are entertaining for all ages.

Burdekin Shire Events

Put your running shoes on and let’s get going. Burdekin Sugar Rush is the signature running event held in the Burdekin Shire in Autumn. Whether you’re a seasoned runner or just wanting to start, this annual event is an excellent way to experience the area’s spectacular scenery. Prefer to get around on four-wheels? You’ll want to include a visit to the Burdekin Auto Festival – a multi-day event where you can admire up to 200 classic cars, hot rods and motorcycles out on display.

 Magnetic Island Events

We might be biased, but we think Magnetic Island is one of the best places to explore and enjoy the great outdoors. Time your visit to our iconic tropical island with Sealink Magnetic Island Race Week in late August. Overflowing with first-rate sailing, live bands and an incredible atmosphere, this event is for competitive sailors and those just wanting to have a fantastic time!

Not ready for the fun to end? Extend your stay at Magnetic Island with The Great Island Trek. Held in early September, choose to trek, walk, or run through this stunning natural environment. Be sure to keep your eye out for koalas on the way!
